Through the Erasmus Initiative Dynamics of Inclusive Prosperity (DoIP), we explore how businesses, governments, and citizens can work together to create a more inclusive and sustainable economy. We address topics such as social justice, sustainable growth, and urban development, always inspired by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Through initiatives like (Re)Mapping Rotterdam, part of Vital Cities & Citizens, we bring science and society closer together. We listen to what residents need to feel at home and work alongside local initiatives to create truly inclusive neighbourhoods. The joint programme ‘Inclusive and Prosperous Cities’ further explores key topics such as city branding, smart societies, and urban transformation.
Through the Resilient Delta Initiative, we work with local governments, businesses, schools, and civil society organisations to promote broad prosperity across South Holland. Via Regio Deals, we focus on improving the quality of life, living environments, and employment in diverse communities. This approach aligns with our ambition to be a Civic University, contributing actively to the development of our region.
Health is a cornerstone of broad prosperity. Through the Erasmus Initiative Smarter Choices for Better Health, we combine disciplines to understand how individuals can make better health decisions, and how policies, healthcare systems, and living environments can support these choices. From prevention to care innovation, we are committed to building healthier societies worldwide.
Artificial Intelligence is transforming our lives — from working to dating, from shopping to healthcare. Through the Erasmus Initiative AiPact, we investigate how AI is reshaping societal processes and how technology can be used to foster inclusive and sustainable progress. We focus not only on technological advancement but also on the ethical and societal dimensions of AI.
One of the leading voices in the field of Broad Prosperity is Prof. Andrés Rodríguez-Pose from the London School of Economics. Drawing on decades of international research in regional science, he warns of the long-term costs of leaving places and people behind: “Persistent divides between thriving urban centres and struggling regions are not just morally troubling—they are economically reckless. No country can afford to waste the talent and ambition of its people simply because of where they live. Inclusive growth is not a slogan; it’s the only path to resilience, social cohesion, and lasting prosperity.”
Broad prosperity knows no borders. Through UNIC (The European University of Cities in Post-Industrial Transition), Erasmus University Rotterdam partners with nine other European cities to drive societal impact. We unite universities, governments, and citizens to promote inclusion, diversity, and urban renewal. UNIC is helping to shape a Europe where broad prosperity takes centre stage.
